“Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable”
Why SDG 11 Matters in India * With over 35% of India’s population living in urban areas—and projected to reach 50% by 2047—urban sustainability is not a choice, it is a necessity. Challenges in Indian cities: - Overcrowding in slums and informal settlements Inadequate access to clean water, sanitation, and affordable housing - Unplanned urban sprawl and environmental degradation - High levels of air and noise pollution - Vulnerabilities to climate-related disasters (flooding, heatwaves) - Poor public transport systems and traffic congestion - Displacement due to development without proper rehabilitation To achieve SDG 11, India must build cities for people, not just for profit.
