“Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development”
Why SDG 14 Matters in India
India has a 7,500 km long coastline, home to over 250 million people who depend directly or indirectly on marine ecosystems for their livelihoods. The oceans provide food, regulate the climate, and support biodiversity—but they are under threat.
Key challenges in India:
Marine pollution: Plastic waste, untreated sewage, and industrial effluents are choking India’s coastal waters.
Overfishing: Nearly 60% of India’s marine fish stocks are overexploited.
Habitat loss: Coral reefs, mangroves, and seagrass beds are being degraded or lost.
Climate change: Rising sea temperatures and ocean acidification threaten marine species.
Coastal erosion: More than 30% of India’s coastline is eroding, putting communities at risk.

Navumeed Foundation’s Interventions
We promote the sustainable use of marine resources with a focus on community engagement:
Supporting sustainable fishing practices through education and alternatives
Working with local governments to reduce coastal pollution
Awareness drives against plastic pollution in coastal villages
Restoration of mangroves and coastal habitats
Youth programs for ocean conservation education
Advocating for the rights of small-scale fisherfolk
